A tidy stack of plastic storage containers can be an awe-inspiring sight for those of us who have piles of disorganized clutter lying around. Plastic storage containers do a fantastic job of controlling the mess and helping to get organized.
So why go with plastic? Storage containers work best if they are easy to move around, water resistant, can be easily stacked and are clear so you can see through them. Plastic storage containers are the perfect fit for all of these requirements! Whether you need to organize your kitchen, pantry, shoes, clothing, closet, bathroom, garage, or anywhere else in your house plastic containers can be the right answer.
If you are storing anything that is valuable or fragile you should invest in waterproof storage containers. If your items are not stored in waterproof containers and you have a flood, a roof leak or even just simple humidity in the air your items can be ruined. Additionally, waterproof containers can keep clothing and keepsakes from molding from the humidity in the air. Plastic containers with a tight seal make the perfect waterproof storage containers and will be sure to keep your precious items safe and dry for a long time to come.
Before you can choose the right storage container for your items, you'll first need to determine what needs to be stored. Pull out everything you want to organize and stack it all up so you can see how many storage containers you will need, as well as to get a good estimate of the different size plastic storage containers you should buy. Something like gift wrap will need a long skinny container, while something like books would need a completely different size. Make a list of the different sizes you will need before shopping to be sure that you will be able to fit all of your things easily. You may want to take measurements of the longest or largest item you plan to store so that you are sure that you will get at least one container that will fit it.
Little knick-knacks like sewing supplies, fishing lures, etc. would do well in a divided plastic storage container. Clear containers are especially helpful for screws, nails, tacks, staples and any other fasteners since you can divide each into it's own section of the container and then see at a glance through the clear container whether there is a screw or nail that will work for your project without having to dig through a big unsorted pile.
The other thing you will need to decide is if you want to use clear plastic containers or colored containers. Some people like to use different colored storage containers depending on what it is that they are storing. For instance, decoration might go in blue containers while clothing goes in green containers. On the other hand, clear plastic containers are fabulous because they allow you to see what is inside them without having to open the container and dig through to see if what you need is in there. If you want to color code and see what you are storing, why not using clear plastic containers with different colored lids? You can still organize by color, but by using a clear container you will be able to peek inside without having to open it.
